I’m part of a very cool project on Thursday and Friday of this week at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC. It’s a fully orchestrated live performance of Big Star’s third album – Sister Lovers. Big Star was the band formed by Alex Chilton that so many musicians site as a major influence. Local record producer, Chris Stamey, a long time Big Star associate, has spearheaded the project including building many of the arrangements. Chris has also assembled an impressive list of performers including Joey Stevens, an original member of Big Star, Mike Mills of REM, and members of The Love Language, Lost in the Trees, Megafaun, and the North Carolina Symphony.
Proceeds will benefit Kidznotes of Durham, and the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic.
More information is available on the event website, on facebook, and in this recent N&O article.
Hope to see you there!
